While studying abroad in Spain, I told my host dad that I was pregnant (embarazada) rather than embarrassed (avergonzada). The shocked look on his face made me realize I had made a very big mistake.
XI mixed up dinero (money) in Spanish. I told a Maître d' at a restaurant in Mexico that I wanted money instead of dinner. I did not end up getting a table...

XI've been learning Italian on and off for years now, and on a trip to Dublin, I randomly responded to the Irish barista (who was speaking English) in Italian instead of English...once she realized I wasn't Italian, we all had a good laugh.
